Robert has an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics, UK; a BA in Political Science and French from the University of California, Berkeley; and a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Bordeaux, France.
Robert joined OBG in early 2007, leading editorial initiatives for reports in Kuwait, Jordan and Tunisia, before taking over as Managing Editor for Africa in 2008. He oversees the company’s research in more than a dozen of Africa’s largest economies, providing an in-depth understanding of, and familiarity with, both broad macro-level issues as well as the day-to-day concerns that affect business on the continent.
He brought with him a wealth of experience from his previous career, having covered political trends in sub-Saharan Africa as a risk analyst and served as a legislative aide on business and tax issues in the US.
Robert is a frequent commentator on African markets in both print and broadcast media, including the BBC, CNBC, Reuters and NPR. He has also delivered lectures at a number of universities, including the London Business School, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Virginia. Robert is a regular speaker at major conferences, including the NY Africa Forum and the World Investment Conference North Africa, and sits on the advisory board of The Global Africa Investment Summit.
Robert is a Truman Security Fellow and a former Jesse Unruh Fellow, and currently serves as an advisor to two Africa start-ups: Asoko Insight, a data analytics firm, and OE54, a project management firm.
When he is not travelling in Africa, Rob can be found capsizing boats and tangling mainsheets as an amateur sailor in Washington DC, where he is based.
