The Report: Emerging Turkey 2006

Turkey has been a centre of trade and commerce for centuries, and its status as a bridge between cultures is well established. Ongoing economic reforms in recent years have resulted in steady GDP growth based on solid fundamentals. The government’s large-scale privatisation and diversification efforts have continued to pay off, and the country has seen steadily increasing foreign direct investment flows. Consequently, competition has ramped up throughout the economy, which has benefitted the increasingly mobile middle class and raised the standard of living across the board. Politically the country is a major power, respected by its neighbours and peers around the world for its moderate bent and strong commitment to secular leadership. Continued reform efforts are expected to result in ongoing expansion in the coming years.
