Taxis are cheap and plentiful in most major cities. The Saudi Public Transport Company provides affordable bus services throughout the Kingdom, while train transportation is an alternative to driving if one is travelling from Riyadh to the east.
Arabic is the most commonly spoken language in the country and is also the Kingdom’s official language; however, many businesspeople have a knowledge of the English language. Street signs are bilingual, with information written in Arabic and English.
There are a total of five calls to prayer per day, four of which typically take place during business hours. These are strictly enforced and can take up to 30 minutes. The timing of the call to prayer varies throughout the Kingdom on a day-to-day basis.
Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in the Kingdom, and ATMs can be found in even the most remote places. The country’s currency, the riyal, is pegged to the US dollar at SR3.75:$1. Most hotels will offer to exchange money, although not all will.
